INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE
Indian Head Massage is practised today as much as it was thousands of years ago. It dates back more than 4000 years ago and has its roots in Ayurveda, one of the oldest healthcare systems in the world. It is known as the “Science of Longevity” and is based upon the principle that illness or disease is created when we are out of balance.
Our work and lifestyle patterns have been changing, with the emphasis shifting away from physical activity to a more sedentary lifestyle, and because of our lack of physical activity but increased mental activity, the resulting tension can get stuck in the body and emerge as discomfort.
Despite its name, the Western head massage routine includes more of the body than just the head. It also embraces the upper back, shoulders and neck, the face, ears, upper chest and upper arms, the main areas where we store tension.
It is possible to use oils for a special treatment every now and then but on the whole it is carried out “dry” which makes it very versatile. One of the great advantages is that it is done with clothes-on making it extremely easy to be carried out at home or in the workplace which is why Indian Head Massage is being carried out more and more in a variety of companies for stress relief.
As a non-intrusive therapy, the effects and benefits of Indian Head Massage are numerous. By improving the bloodflow it increases oxygen and nutrients in the blood, boosts circulation and helps with the removal of waste resulting in the release of toxin build up. Indian Head Massage can help with:
- High blood pressure
- Stress
- Headaches
- Tension in the muscles
- Improves mental function
- Releases stagnant energy throughout the body whilst creating balance
- Calmness and harmony within yourself
- Extremely good for depression and anxious states giving you a “feel good” factor not to be missed.
It is important that the spiritual origins of head massage should not be forgotten, for it does much more than simply relieve physical tension. It also calms the spirit and helps to rebalance the body’s own vital energies.
